Cured Tibetan woman talks with home

Siqiu Drolma, a 46-year-old rural Tibetan woman from Pangkog county in Ngari prefecture of Tibet, received a call from her daughter on May 4, 13 days after her operation in Beijing. She told her daughter about the process of her operation, her excitement when visiting the Tian'anmen Square and her happiness when going shopping.

28 years ago, a bump was found on her neck. Because of poverty and lack of medicine, it grew into a huge neoplasm as large as two heads. Her husband died early and she lives with her daughter who is mentally handicapped. With sickness, Siqiu Drolma had to lead a life depending on subsidies from the government.

Li Yichao, an official from Sinopec in Beijing, began aiding Siqiu Drolma 8 years ago and had tried to relieve her of the illness. At the end of March, 2010, Siqiu Drolma arrived in Beijing for operation supported by units such as Beijing Tibet Hospital, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, and Beijing Stomatological Hospital as well as people from all circles.

According to Tenzin Dase, interpreter as well as Tibetan doctor who accompanies Siqiu Drolma, the Beijing Stomatological Hospital operated on her and a neoplasm weighing 5kg was removed successfully on April 21.

Siqiu Drolma felt more relieved after talking to her daughter who is well cared for by the local government. It was the principal of her township who asked her daughter to call her in his office.

"Our motherland is like a big family and the Beijing residents are so warm-hearted," Siqiu Drolma told the reporter.
