Tibet to see employment peak in March

3/2/2010

Tibet will see an employment peak in March, with some private enterprises beginning to raise wages for their workers, according to the Tibet Business.

Experts said that the impact of the global financial crisis has weakened and the national economy has begun to recover, giving rise to a good employment situation in 2010.

Several employment services centers in Lhasa, capital of Tibet, resumed their work earlier than in previous years.

Li Wuyu, director of the Jinqiao Job Services Center, said the employers did not worry about labor shortages but wanted to hire workers as early as possible to start their work.

More than 20 enterprises registered with the center to look for job hunters during the February 18-26 period.

A woman surnamed Li from southwest China's Sichuan Province, found to her surprise that her monthly salary offered by the employer rose to 1,800 yuan RMB from 1,200 yuan RMB last year, when she applied for a cook job for an enterprise.

The salary rise is seen not as an individual case in a certain company. The average monthly salary of drivers, one of the least favored professions, has increased by 300 yuan RMB to 1,500 yuan RMB.

Experts estimated that the average salary in Tibet will rise by 15 percent this year.
