Xi'an --> Lhasa --> Hong Kong / Tibet guide?

   I am planning a trip passing through the above route. Given the limited time I have, I will fly over with Air China. But first, where would you recommend to get a Tibet Travel Permit; and second, would I need a guide to outside Lhasa? 

I'd also appreciate tips for flight route from Lhasa to HongKong.

	it takes you to get Lhasa from Xi'an around 35hours. even that's a longer train trip journey.but that's much better than from Beijing.
