Yumbulakang Palace is the first palace ever built in Tibet region.

Take flight into Tibet. Upon your arrival, local guide will meet you and transfer you to Lhasa. On the way, you can enjoy the heart-beating highland view along the Yarlong Tsangpo river (the longest river in Tibet). Acclimatization of high altitude : school visiting. The rest time is free for relax and more oxygen.

About 8km west of central Lhasa is the Drepung, once world's largest monastery with about 10,000 monks. This day's sightseeing begins with these white monastic buildings piled up on the hillside. Walking up to the hill is a pleasant thing, an easy break from the solemn ambience inside the halls and chapels. At the plat roof of hillside, you can have very good views of the whole Lhasa city and the distant mountains.
Drepung is one of Lhasa's two great Gelugpa monasteries, the other is Sera. Around 5km north of central Lhasa, Sera may not be as grandiose as Drepung, but is more serene surrounded by many small temples. The 'Buddhism Scriptures Debating' in Sera is very famous.

Detailed Itinerary:
The first day of sightseeing starts from Lhasa's cardinal landmark- Potala Palace, a structure of massive portions. Its towering image already appearing on various occasions, but your first sight of the Potala will still be an awe-inspiring moment. It takes at least a good 2-hour to visit those rooms, halls and chapels.
In the afternoon, we will drop a visit of the Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of Tibet. Everyday, pilgrims from every corner of Tibet trek a long distance to the temple. The temple is the product of Han, Tibetan and Nepalese architectural techniques. Then we will visit Barkhor, the oldest street in a very traditional city in Tibet.

Qonggya is the hometown of the 5th Dalai Lama and Songzan Ganpo, mysteriously they are the only two monarchs who united Tibet in the history.
Besides the visit to Tibetan Kings Tomb, and the Nunnery, there's a small hill you can also have a hike up for the view.

This day there is no specific sightseeing destination, but the travel itself is enjoyable indeed due to the stunning beautiful views all along the way, we drive on the Zhegu pasture, and will come across the Zhegu lake, occasionally can pull over for a short stop at those unnamed small monasteries, since this area is seldom accessed by tourists, most likely you can see swarm of yaks or deer or other wild lives.

Today we continue driving on the pasture, this area is also unpopulated and thus keeps its primitive looks, occasionally you can run into some nomadic people who are different from those in big cities , unadorned and shy , with our guide's help you can have a private talk with them to have closest look at what the true " Tibetan" is like.

This small town is well known for a legendary meditation monk called Milareba, Shangga Gutar Monastery is built in honor of him, there you can also see his tomb stupa.
Close to the town, there's a small mountain where there are many meditation caves including Milareba used to stay and meditate in, hike up and visit the caves.
In Loca you can also see a snow-capped mountain called Khula Gangri (7583M)

What is a Tibet Permit?
When you fly from any city to Lhasa you will need to show this permit when you check in at the airport. Furthermore, whenever you buy a flight to Lhasa you need to show this permit. TTB permits are also needed by groups traveling by Land Cruiser but this will be arranged by the travel agency organizing the trip. More »
